Birthday Presents

Today, I will be showing you another birthday present, this time for a friend of mine who is about to turn 16. I was looking through Dorm Decor and found this sleep mask. They told you to sew around the edges and then stuff it with fiber fill but I wanted it to look a lot thicker than that so I used two layers of batting in between the pattern layers and quilted her initials into it to hold the "sandwich" together. Then I bound the edges with some fabric I had in my stash, I also added and elastic strap to the back. I plan on appliqueing her first initial onto a pillow to make a cute set.

How do you modify crafts you find in books?

I posted a comment yesterday. Wonder what happened to it? I said I like this and you can make me one for my birthday. Love you.

Sweetie, you are a clever and creative girl. So glad you are using your skills to make this nice gift. Good thinking on the double batting. I think up most of my own crafts and when I see an idea in a book I like I let it simmer awhile to get my own spin on it by adding, modifying, doing it bigger or smaller. You have a creative heart, good for you!! Come visit my blog, you might find something you can modify and make your own!
